KNOCK OUT SERIES
ENDS THE 2022/23 SEASON
The ENG U13-U15 Netball Shield and Cup national finals finished off an incredible 2022/23 season. Teams from across the country had worked their way into the national event of either the Shield or Cup and then battled it out to be crowned No.1 at the impressive National Cycling Centre in Manchester.
Chester NC were deservedly crowned the Shield national champions after two impressive wins against North East opposition. In their first game against Grangetown, they had to wait until the fourth quarter to put the game to bed with Grangetown proving more than a match for the Cheshire-based side. The final against Oaksway was a replica of the Grangetown game in regards to matchplay. Chester took the initiative early on but Oaksway held their own until Chester started to pull away at the back end of the third quarter. This was a positive end to the season for this Chester side who had unfortunately been relegated from the YNPL a few months prior.

Grangetown NC who have been on an incredible run of form won the U13 Netball Cup after defeating two of the country's strongest teams. Against Leeds Athletic in the semi-finals, they had to weather intense pressure to the final whistle to secure a place in the final against YWCA Bury. Against YWCA Bury they upped the gears and showed a ruthless side to their play that had been missing all season, especially in our YNPL. U15 Netball Cup
Turnford NC celebrated a historic treble but was made to work hard for their win after two tough encounters with YWCA Bury and Grangetown NC. Turnford came into this event with influential shooter Coco Williams but did have to recruit Neve Marsden in attack to fill the void Coco left. Up first they played YWCA Bury who more than matched the Turnford side for large periods, with Maisie their mid-court star pulling the strings in what was a weakened team from the one that pushed Turnford into our YNPL Grand Finals a month earlier. Turnford though used all their experience to repel the YWCA Bury attack and set up a final with Grangetown. The final was a fitting end to the 2022/23 season with both sides playing out of their skins through-out. Turnford on many occasions threatened to pull away, but everytime they did Grangetown found a way back into the game and on many occasions could of gone into the lead, but were disrupted by the incredible defensive pressure of Turnford. As we went into the final quarter, Turnford were only one point ahead and we all expected a grand stand finish, but instead we got a professional and calm performance from Turnford who went on to secure the win and a famous ENG treble.
