QUADRUPLE

Oldham Eagles became one of ENG’s most successful teams after they won a famous quadruple. Oldham came into the ENG U11 Netball Cup Nationals knowing that a win would mean they had won every ENG major title this season in their age group.

In the finals, Oldham cruised past their opponents in the group stages. The only real challenge is coming from Oldham Red. In the seeding round, they got an insight into the challenges ahead in the competition after being paired with Turnford. This tie was a repeat of the YNPL Grand Finals, but unlike that game, which was close for over 16 minutes, Oldham swept aside Turnford to go into the knock-outs as the No.1 ranked side.

The way Oldham Eagles were playing, it would take a huge effort for them to be denied the title in this event. Another two ruthless wins in the Last 16 & Quarter Finals against Fusion and Shan respectively meant they faced Sutton Town in the semi-finals. This would be the first time in the competition that they would be truly tested.

Oldham raced into an 8-2 lead, and it looked like it was going to be a comfortable win for the North West-based side. Sutton Town, though, decided to use the newly created Super Shot zone to cause chaos. Jaimee-Leigh Bowley scored Sutton Town’s first Super Shot to bring life back into the game, but then followed it up with another two to bring the game to within one point of Oldham. This is where we saw the true champions within Oldham who, under extreme pressure, stayed calm and kept scoring one-point shots. In the end, an 11-8 win for Oldham, and they set up another encounter with Turnford in the final.

The final saw Oldham do what Oldham does best, and that’s start the game quickly and put the pressure on Turnford early on. Turnford ended the half strongly, keeping the game competitive going into the second half. In the second half, Turnford tried piling on the pressure against Oldham by replicating Sutton Town’s Super Shot tactics. Turnford didn’t score any, and Oldham went on to win 12-8 and become our Quadruple champions.
